Day 3: Joburg, Soweto, Mandela...oh my!!

The weather is amazing here. It's crisp, cool... on the border of needing a jacket or not.
What an amazing, overwhelming, great day we had today! Our first stop was the Nelson Mandela square, then thru Johannesburg on our way to Soweto. We picked up our local guide, Queen, who took us around Soweto and told us of the rich but sad history of this area. We saw the tin houses, the poor living conditions of a marginalized people, and told us how life has and is improving. We toured Mandela's former home, saw Tutu's former home, ate lunch, and saw the infamous towers of Soweto.
Our last stop was the Apartheid Museum. You could spend days in there...easily. Overwhelming to say the least. Hard to grasp that it was 'current events' when I would have been in school, yet I vaguely remember any of it.
At dinner tonight we celebrated 2 birthdays: Mr. Peakin's and Sharon's. She the group leader from Canada. And the night would not have been complete without ice cream...with Mona Pizza!!
Tomorrow we head towards Kruger for purchase drive on Saturday...so stay tuned!!

My WiFi is being picky...I'll upload more pics later.
