Day 2: Welcome to Ventanilla & Las Lomas

After our morning Starbucks run, we headed north to Ventanilla.  With traffic, it usually takes about 1 hour to get there - traffic is insane in Peru!  We took a tour of a couple other districts in Ventanilla, such as Mi Peru and Pachacutec, both very marginalized areas with rough roads, no running water, and unfinished buildings.  We made a beach stop at the Bahia Blanca - a new stop for me - and watched the ocean waves roll in. We grabbed lunch and up to the school we went. Kids got their first glance of the community in which Daniel & Voices4Peru work in. After a delicious Lomo Saltado for lunch, it was time to play with the kids.  I organized and sorted all the donations that have come in this summer and the kids just played.  They worked on their Spanish skills and met some great people from the community.  Around 6, we headed down to Soccer Practice and were quickly introduced to the traditional greeting (kiss on the cheek).  We watched all 3 teams practice...and the girls even participated for a while!!  Way to go, girls!!!!
A long first day, but a great one...with many more to come!!!
