Day 2 took us to La Mitad del Mundo where we visited an indigenous
museum…and quickly were grateful we were not doing the extension to the
Amazon. Highlight was standing on the
Equator!! Our guide showed us a variety
of experiments…and we have some amazing egg balancers in the group!! We all got our passports stamped even! We then headed back to center city – saw the
gorgeous cathedral and took a tour of the San Francisco Monastery. We went back to the hotel for some down time
before dinner…which last about an hour until we got antsy…and hungry. So off on an adventure we went to explore a
bit of Quito and find a grocery store.
Weather has been fantastic – a bit overcast, cloudy today, a little
chilly at times at this high of an altitude – but no sunburns. Of course as we were going to leave for
dinner, it started raining, so another fu n, cultural experience we got was riding an Ecuadorian bus with 100 of our closest friends! Travel is always an adventure!
We’re all packed up, ready for a busy travel day tomorrow as we’re off to the Galápagos Islands!!! We have a 30 min flight to Guayaquil, and then a 90 min flight out to Baltra. Then we catch a ferry across the canal to Santa Cruz, where we board our bus to take us to see some tortoises, check in to our hotel, lunch, and then off to the Charles Darwin Station for more tortoises. It sounds like Wi-Fi will NOT be happening for us over the next few days, so more than likely you will hear from us on Friday when we come back from the islands. Remember, no news is good news! :) Our Tour Director, Lenin, is amazing – the kids love him – we are in excellent hands!! We are suuuuper excited for the next few days and the kids are all doing well!!
Thanks again, moms & dads, for giving me your kids for the week!! It’s been an amazing adventure so far…and it’s only Day 2!!
Until next time!
